Amigurumi Jake

I finally finished this amigurumi Jake for my husband.   We are big fans of Adventure Time and Jake is his favorite character.  I was afraid it would not sew together as well as I would like, but I think he turned out great.

I used this free pattern from a poster called Vash.  It was fairly easy to follow.  If I could go back and do it again, then I would do both loops, rather than back loops only.

The following pics are from the photo shoot with Jake and my husband:

Raccoon Amigurumi Plush

If you have read my previous posts, then you will have seen that I enjoy making crafts for my nieces and nephews.  Some time ago I was told that my oldest nephew would like a raccoon plush, so I started making it.  This project took significantly longer to finish than originally intended.  It was not a difficult project, but it was not as colorful and fun to make as some other projects that I have been working on recently. It was a struggle to make, but I like how it turned out, and I hope my nephew enjoys it.

I already had a good raccoon pattern from Stacey Trock included with a Craftsy class that I had purchased.  (I think it was like $10 to $15 on sale.) You can find the class and pattern here.  In fact, this class is the one that got me started crocheting again and was my introduction to amigurumi.

This pattern is fairly simple. It requires knowledge of SC, DC, color changes, and joining stuffed animal body parts.

I made one change to the pattern.  The original pattern expects the maker to use felt on the eyes--large crocheted black oblong eye patch, small white felt circle, and then plastic safety eye.  However, I didn't think I would be able to cut out perfect circles, so I crocheted circles for myself.

My pattern for the white circle for the eye is as follows (back loops only):
Rd 1: MC=ch 2, SC 6 in second ch from hook (6 SC total)
Rd 2: 2SC in first SC, SC in next 2 SC, 2 SC in next SC, SC in next 2 SC (8 SC total)

If you like this amigurumi raccoon, you should check out my other amigurumi projects.  You can find them under the labels of amigurumi and stuffed animal.

Amigurumi Fish Plush

My littlest nephew is all about fish right now, so I decided to make a fish plush for him.  I searched all over the web for a free fish pattern that I liked, but I couldn't find one.  During my search, I kept happening upon a cute and easy looking fish pattern by Stacey Trock.  I finally broke down and purchased her Willy the Fish pattern.  As always, her pattern was an easy one to follow.  (Note:  I'm not currently getting any payment for my viewpoint about her patterns, but I sure wouldn't mind it if she decided to let me have 1 or 2 free patterns for it. )

I made a green and blue fish with a yellow mouth for my nephew.   In this picture, you can see the various parts that comprise the fish.  Each shape was fairly simple to make.

This fish has baby safe eyes because my nephew is under 3 years old.  Instead of a SC magic ring for the eyes, I used black yarn and sewed it through several times in the location where the plastic eye would have been.

My nephew seemed to like his new fish plush.  He smiled and hugged him, which totally made my day.

While I was at it, I went ahead and made another fish.  The second fish features a multicolored body, dark blue fins, and a green mouth.  I used plastic safety eyes for this one.

Here are its parts:

and here are some pics of the finished product:

I really like how my fish plushies turned out. This project was fairly quick and pretty easy, and the finished result was so cute.

Update:  This project was featured on Stitch by Stitch: Anything Goes Quilt 'n Sew #31.

Hoops' Amigurumi Adventure

Last week, I made Yoyo, and he was lonely, so I decided to go ahead and make Hoops.  The pattern I used for Hoops was from Amination Blog.  I followed the pattern, except for making the eyes just slightly bigger.

 Hoops' Amigurumi Adventure

When last we met, at Yoyo's Amigurumi Adventure, we encountered Yoyo the bunny, who was patiently awaiting the return of his best friend Hoops.  Now, we adventure from the perspective of Hoops the cat.

Hoops was outside scavenging for food when a bad rainstorm came through.  He sought refuge under a nearby porch.

The rain stopped, but it looked like it could rain again at any moment, so Hoops decided to stay awhile longer.

Hoops wandered around the porch and encountered...an animal that he thought resembled himself.  He had never encountered another of his kind, and he was very curious, so he jumped up into the chair with the animal.

However, the beast in the chair began to attack, or so he thought, so Hoops ran away into the house.

Hoops found some other animals when he entered the house, and he talked to them. They seemed really nice.  He was hungry, so he decided to look for food.  Hoops stood up by the window to look out for food.

He couldn't see any food, but he found a higher spot, so he decided to climb up and look.  Hoops climbed up to the top of the cactus hill.

From his perch atop the hill, Hoops did not spot any food, but he did see something else.  He saw another animal that resembled the one he had encountered earlier.  Hoops tried again to make friends, but he was met with even less success than last time.

Hoops walked around the house some more, and he didn't find any food, so he decided to go back to the nice animals.  As he walked back to them, he spotted a friendly face.  Hoops was excited because he spotted Yoyo.

The other animals were so nice that Hoops and Yoyo decided they would stay awhile.
